Please join us in welcoming Ameena El-Bibany to the ARTIS family as a Principal. Ameena will be helping to source and lead investments across TechBio as well as supporting our portfolio companies.
Prior to ARTIS, Ameena spent over five years investing at the intersection of technology and biology as a Partner at Rising Tide VC, where she helped launch the first two pooled funds and began and built the firm’s health and bio investment practice. She has invested in, and worked with, companies spanning personalized medicine, synthetic biology, computational biology, and more.
Her passion for bridging academia and industry to create lasting impact is a culmination of her early life growing up on Stanford campus immersed in tech, as well as her early technical career as a geneticist. She began her career in R&D at Novozymes, a world leader in bio innovation, and has conducted research across DNA damage and repair in longevity, microbiome diversity, and stem cell induction and stabilization. She has received multiple competitive grants funded by the National Science Foundation for research done at the California Academy of Sciences and the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, and was an awardee of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Ameena holds a B.S. in Genetics from the University of California, Davis.
“The convergence of tech and life sciences is the next big wave to upend massive, traditional industries like healthcare, agriculture, food, industrial processes and more,” said Ameena. “The ARTIS family is one of bold thinkers, who aren’t afraid to get into the trenches and really help companies build, and I’m inspired to continue backing equally bold founders unafraid of tackling audacious problems.”
“Ameena has been collaborating with the ARTIS team for years, and we’ve had the opportunity to work together through common portfolio companies TAE Life Sciences and Unnatural Products, Inc.,” said ARTIS partner Vasudev (Vas) Bailey, PhD. “Her deep technical knowledge, ability to resonate with founders, and thoughtful approach to building companies, makes her a natural fit for ARTIS as we pave our way in TechBio.”
We are glad to have you, Ameena!
